The art collection is very special to me given that I express and develop symbols of my Purepecha culture; through which I display some Pre-Columbian symbols and symbols currently used to decorate a garment or kitchen utensil. Sometimes I combine both in my own style. My purpose with art is to explore and share the roots of my Purepecha culture.
MY CULTURE
The symbology is mostly Indigenous; yet through the colonization of México and Michoacán it is known that through the years it has varied in certain things due to the Spanish, Mestiza and Criolla influence on the Purépecha region. However it is still unique. These are not only crafts, they are also symbols of the roots embedded or embroidered in typical things that are used on the daily by the Purepecha community.
Spiders, serpents , and snails are an example of Pre-Columbian symbols of the Purepecha region before the conquest. These symbols were used as decoration on plates and embroidery.
Demonstration of the symbology inspired by the design of “batea”of the Purepecha region, which I transform to my own style, but with a mixture of the Pre-Columbian. Today is very common to find new regional typical symbolisms of Michoacán and its “bateas (wooden trays mainly for washing clothes).”
“Petate (a bedroll used in México, from the Náhuatl word petlatl):” used in Pre-Columbian times and today. This is a palm tree bedroll with different designs, in which I bring vivid and bright colors to give them another perspective and thus can be contemplated for their caliber of artistry instead of common use.
